“Being able to offer our customers travel inspiration and advice through audio is something we’ve been interested in doing for a while at Charitable Travel. The special insights that we gathered in our debut podcast episode are so valuable and we are grateful to have Charitable PR & Podcasts on board to help make it all happen so seamlessly.”
Ally Ware, Marketing Manager at Charitable Travel
Charitable Travel’s TIPs is a podcast series by social enterprise Charitable Travel, Charitable PR & Podcasts’ sister organisation. The series spotlights a range of fantastic holiday destinations, getting the insider scoop from a travel expert and a local to enable a 30-minute holiday for the listener. Charitable Travel is a not-for-private-profit social enterprise that allows travellers to donate 5% of their holiday price to a charity of their choice, completely free of charge.
The Travel Insider Podcast is hosted and co-produced by Laura Gelder, the editor of Charitable Traveller Magazine. The podcast is aimed at those wanting to get a real insider view on what to see and do during their next holiday, from the people who know it best. After two years of the pandemic, Charitable Travel is encouraging their listeners to #MakeItCount in 2022, by making incredible holiday memories together, and benefitting great causes at the same time. We (Charitable PR & Podcasts) co-produce, record and edit the podcast.
When approaching this project, it was clear during the planning stage that, as much as possible, there should be an emphasis on local voices and views. This way, the guests could offer up authentic and unique pieces of travel advice that would be of genuine interest to a travel-loving audience. In order to get the best content, we would need to work closely with all the guests, including any tourist board or association that was involved. By collaborating closely with these travel experts, we were able to tease out the topics that would really highlight the destination, as well as events that travellers could look forward to in the yearly calendar. In the debut episode Laura spoke to Louise Zammit of the Malta Tourism Authority and Clive Cortis, a local Maltese guide who lives and works in Malta.
Laura worked closely with the production team, developing the script and planning the topics that would be covered over the course of the episode. Once a recording date was set in the diary, we worked with Laura to set up a microphone in her home for remote recording. During the recording, Laura facilitated the discussion, bringing out some fantastic discussion from Louise and Clive.
The podcast was then taken away to be edited. This included adding elements of music and sound design to really bring the destination to life for the listener. We also pulled out several clips for audiogram content that would be used to promote the podcast ahead of its release.
